The System

The hollow Air-Lock Log system is designed to protect your home or cabin from natural elements, preserving its original beauty and your continuing investment. The logs must fit together tightly to eliminate both air and moisture infiltration. Wood can be protected from natural elements with proper design, and care.

The Air-Lock Log system features precision pre-cutting and allows for settling over windows and doors. The joinery methods used; tongue and groove, butt joint, notch and spline, and saddle corner are designed to eliminate moisture and air infiltration. The overlapping, saddle notched corner design is far superior to the butt and pass corner design which allows log surfaces to collect snow and rain. The full round Air-Lock system sheds water naturally by draining it down and away. There are no ledges or cavities where water or snow can accumulate and begin to soak in. The gasket material seals the space in the tongue and groove. Caulking is placed strategicly between the log courses to insure against moisture penetration. Window and door openings are designed with special spline joints and are caulked and flashed to seal them tightly. Other system features that are designed to protect the wood include a standard two foot roof overhang on all sides, half log trim around windows and doors, and use of a recommended exterior sealant with ultra violet protection and moisture barriers.

  • Air-Lock Log Homes offers four diameter choices: 7" diameter logs for cabins and small homes in moderate climates, 8" and 9" for medium to large homes in moderate to severe climats and 10" diameter logs for maximum energy efficiency and aesthetic proportion for large homes and lodges.
  • Gables are pre-cut full round logs, a vertical extension of the log wall, or, optionally, half log siding over frame construction.
  • Roof structure elements consist of solid log rafters, truss members, and loft beams designed to meet Building Code requirements and pre-cut for easy on-site erection. Heavy equipment is not necessary but advised.
  • Porch materials are all log components including rafters, posts, lintels, rails and "spoolies" or balusters.
  • Caulking is included, as are plans, log construction details and erection instructions.
  • Steel rod is inserted verticall intothe log walls at strategic locations to secure the wall and provide anti-shear properties.
  • Options to the standard specifications may include exterior log stairs, exterior stain, sealant and preservative, and an engineering report when required by local authorities.
  • Be sure to confirm the exact specifications included in your purchase agreement.  You may choose to eliminate certain product items or add extra material to suite your project.
  • The manufacturer and local dealer may be able to recommend a contractor or builder in your area to assist with your project.
